Algeria and Niger have reaffirmed their commitment to the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project, which aims to connect Nigeria to Europe through Niger and Algeria.

The progress of the 4,000-kilometer pipeline, designed to transport natural gas to Europe and bolster regional energy security, was discussed during a visit by Nigerien Minister of Petroleum, Sahabi Oumarou to Algiers on September 29.

The meeting, as reported by Algeria’s Ministry of Energy and Mines, focused on evaluating the current status of the TSGP and identifying the next steps in its implementation.

Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab revealed that a high-level meeting between Algeria, Niger, and Nigeria is planned to push the project forward and tackle the remaining challenges.

Algeria also expressed its readiness to support Niger in petrochemical development, specifically in oil refining.

The two nations also agreed to accelerate the pace of Sonatrach’s oil exploration efforts in Niger’s Kafra block, located in the north of the country.

Both Algeria and Niger stressed the importance of high-level ministerial meetings between the three TSGP countries to ensure smooth progress.

The TSGP project is a key initiative to enhance energy cooperation, drive economic development, and secure stable energy supplies for Europe.

Beyond the pipeline, discussions between the ministers also touched on strengthening energy cooperation more broadly, especially in the context of Sonatrach’s ongoing oil projects in Niger.
