Uche Anya, the Chairman of Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), after marking Breathe Lounge on the 26th of February for removal, allegedly demolished the property at 2 am last night and abducted staff members.
Before the demolition, Anya was accused of taking an interest in buying the property, which the owner turned down during construction.
A month after completion, Breathe Lounge started its business, but Anya, whose private property is behind the restaurant, placed a siren and camera to distract and discourage walk-in customers.
The day I visited the lounge, the first few minutes were heavenly until the ECTDA chairman’s siren came on. It was so deafening that we hurriedly left the place without finishing our drinks, a customer said.
According to a video by the restaurant owner, he had sought the state governor’s attention, Peter Mbah, to caution Anya over using power conferred on him through his office to settle a personal vendetta.
A few days later, a video surfaced on social media of the property being demolished for alleged non-compliance with the ECTDA under Anya.
