Ikoyi Marriage Registrar Mrs Onwurah Ogochuckwu, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and the Ministry of Interior has ignored West Africa Weekly‘s media inquiry on the presence of Frank J. Avbel, a U.S. residence and convicted sex offender who gained entry into Nigeria.

West Africa Weekly reached out to Mrs Ogochukwu on April 21, for public disclosure of Avbel records whom the Ikoyi marriage registry approved his legal marriage with an opposite gender living in Nigeria, despite the fact that the United States Department of Justice has convicted him for sex-related offenses. However, WAW did not receive any response seven days later.

Similarly on April 21, West Africa Weekly wrote to the NIS on the apparent breach of border control following Avbel’s entry into Nigeria. The NIS and the Ministry of Interior is yet to respond as at the time of filing this report.

It will be recalled that West Africa Weekly reported how Avbel was granted VISA into Nigeria. A similar case to Avbel is that of famous DJ Tim Westwood, an ex-employee of British-owned Capital Xtra, who came to Nigeria to rebrand as Lagos Chef despite allegations of sexual offense committed in the United Kingdom, UK.

Meanwhile, many Nigerians have condemned the Ministry of Interior headed by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for allowing sexual offenders into the country. They called for a strict border policy against any externally convicted or alleged sex offenders.
