NAFDAC Amoxicillin Recalled

On December 3, 2024, the National Agency for Drug and Food Administration and Control (NAFDAC) recalled a batch of Deekins Amoxicillin 500mg Capsules.

The recalled batch with lot number 4C639001 was manufactured by Eco-med Pharma Ltd and marketed by DevineKings Pharmaceutical Ltd.

NAFDAC said that the batch was recalled following reports of severe adverse reactions.

It added that according to Eco-med Pharma Ltd, reports of severe adverse drug reactions were received from a hospital that reported three cases of severe adverse drug reactions from patients administered with the batch of Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg capsule.

NAFDAC has urged healthcare professionals and consumers to immediately discontinue using the affected batch and report any suspicious cases of substandard or falsified medicines to the nearest NAFDAC office.

However, two months later, no significant efforts have been made to take the batch off the Markets completely. It remains in circulation, causing harm to people.

In an X post, Dr. Olusina Mike brought this to the public’s attention again.

There is a dangerous drug currently circulating in Nigeria. We have seen two people in three weeks who were almost killed by this common drug — the Deekins Amoxicillin 500mg.
