We Should Be Looking At Celebrating Food Security, Healthcare and Education for 25 Years Democracy - LP Lawmaker Orogbu

Lilian Orogbu, a member of the House of Representatives under the Labour Party (LP), expressed that Nigeria should celebrate 25 years of democracy by achieving unbroken food security and access to education, security, and healthcare.

Orogbu, who represents the Awka North/South Constituency of Anambra State, expressed this on the Green Chamber floor on Wednesday while contributing to the debate as Nigeria marks 25 years of unbroken democracy.

The Lawmaker, a professor of business administration, said Nigerians have not enjoyed good governance from the democratic system.

This celebration evokes a mix of emotions for me, as the people we represent, our fellow Nigerians, are watching us to fulfil the purpose for which we were elected, she said.

Orogbu further asked the Green Chamber how the unbroken democracy we are celebrating has translated to unbroken food security, healthcare, life security, and education for Nigerians.

Democracy is the government of the people, by the people, and for the people, and it should change the lives of the people we represent. Our people are hungry, so to me, there is nothing to celebrate, she reiterated.

During her speech, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, interjected, saying that democracy makes her representatives today.

In response, she said democracy brought her to office as a parliamentarian member, but she asked how that has impacted the people she represented.

Orogbu eventually informed Speaker Abbas that she is all about celebrating democracy but with an impact on the people members of the house represent.
