Samson Ajao, a 27-year-old from Osogbo, has been officially recognised by Guinness World Recordsfor his extraordinary achievement of reading aloud for 215 hours, earning him the title of the “longest marathon reading aloud.” This achievement also ranks as one of the most extended marathon record attempts in the history of Guinness World Records.

Ajao’s feat surpasses the previous record of 124 hours, set in 2022 by Rysbai Isakov of Kyrgyzstan. The marathon required continuous reading aloud from published works, with no more than a 30-second pause between selections.

Several dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Ngozi Adeleke, and the Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, witnessed this remarkable accomplishment. Ajao read over 100 books covering finance, sales, management, leadership, politics, health, and mental wellness.

Ajao embarked on this marathon to promote literacy and inspire a reading culture across Nigeria. His record-breaking achievement joins a storied history of marathon reading records, a tradition that began in 1987 and includes notable record holders like Adrian Hilton and Deepak Sharma Bajagain. Guinness World Records highlighted that Ajao’s marathon reading is not only the longest of its kind but also one of the most demanding record attempts in recent history, comparable to DJ Faber Moreira’s 10-day DJ-ing marathon.
