A 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate, Nnani Adaobi Marian, has died from injuries sustained in a Russian airstrike on Kharkiv, Ukraine, just days before she was due to graduate.
Marian, a graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University, was critically injured on June 29 when Russian forces dropped aerial bombs on the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv. She was initially treated in Kharkiv before being transferred to Germany for advanced medical care over the weekend. Despite the efforts of medical teams in both countries, she succumbed to her injuries.
The attack also claimed the life of her friend, Fatima, who was killed at the scene. Marian’s death was confirmed by Kharkiv National Medical University.
She had been studying medicine in Ukraine and was on the verge of completing her degree. The Russian bombardment of Kharkiv, a city near the border with Russia, has been ongoing throughout the conflict.
