Oyo Assembly Approves Makinde’s Request to Transfer Power to Deputy Governor for Annual Leave

The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to proceed on his annual leave, transferring executive powers to Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal during his absence.

The governor’s letter was read on the floor of the Assembly during Thursday’s plenary by Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the session in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Governor Makinde will proceed on leave from August 10 to September 11, with official resumption of duties scheduled for September 14.

The lawmakers unanimously granted the request while expressing confidence in the seamless continuity of governance under the deputy governor. They tasked Mr Lawal to oversee the day-to-day administration of the state, ensuring government activities continue uninterrupted until Mr Makinde resumes duty.

Speaking after the approval, Mr Fadeyi wished the governor a peaceful and refreshing vacation. He noted that the legislature remained committed to sustaining cordial relations with the executive arm in the interest of the people of Oyo State. He also expressed confidence in the deputy governor’s capacity to provide effective leadership during the period, describing the state’s governance structure as stable and capable of guaranteeing continuity in policy implementation.
