Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has criticised the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu on Thursday, accusing it of withholding critical funding and security support from opposition-led states like his own. He told his executive council that Bauchi has been “frustrated” by a perceived bias, as other states receive preferential financial interventions.
Governor Mohammed directed his cabinet to implement sweeping cost-cutting measures, including scaling back on official travel to Abuja and abroad, to ensure that limited resources are devoted entirely to governance and development programmes.
Despite the funding challenges, he assured Bauchi residents of his administration’s dedication to delivering key infrastructure and community projects. He also called on citizens for patience and continued support, emphasising that “this is the time for governance, not politicking.”
Governor Mohammed’s comments also come against a backdrop of escalating defections from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), many of which are triggered by similar concerns over federal support.
Recall that in Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, along with predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa and the entire PDP caucus, officially joined the APC in April 2025. They justified their move as necessary to “cement development” and secure better collaboration with the federal government
Similarly, Akwa Ibom State’s Governor Umo Eno formally defected from the PDP last month. He declared that his decision was “from a position of strength” and aimed at bringing additional value and progress to his state through alignment with the APC-led federal government.
