Kenyan Activist Mwangi Abducted by Men in Plainclothes

Boniface Mwangi, a Kenyan Activist, has been abducted by six men in plain clothes suspected to be from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, DCI.

Njeri Mwangi, wife to Boniface, disclosed this on Sunday, citing that at 7:15 AM Nairobi time, “six uninformed people went to courage base [Ukambani] and forcefully took my husband [Boniface Mwangi] from his house.

I have no idea who, why or where they have taken him,” Njeri wrote on X.

Subsequently, however, Mwangi’s abduction was confirmed by Police spokesperson Dr Resila Onyango to have been arrested and placed in custody at Kamukunji, according to Kenyan-born CNN Correspondent Larry Madowo.

The Police Spokesperson did not say why or what charges Mwangi will face, the statement reads.

Before Mwangi’s arrest, he had been rallying for Kenyans on X platform to occupy the Standard Chartered Marathon expected to be held on Sunday, October 27, to protest the increasing rise of abductions killings, amongst several other policies he considered “punitive” by Kenyan Government under President William Ruto.

Will you show up to cheer friends at the Standard Chartered marathon? You are a crucial part of the race; your cheering will motivate and energise the athletes and help reform our country in the process, the statement on X reads partly.

Mwangi, also known as The People’s Watchman, an outspoken critic of President Ruto, also asked Kenyans to Carry the Kenyan flag as a symbol of resistance against  “Ruto’s dictatorship.”

Additionally, he urged Kenyans to wear a bandana with anti-government chants, “Ruto Must Go”.

The recent abduction has since become a national concern for Kenyans who shared the same Constitutional right to protest in the East African country.
