The management of Dangote Refinery has refuted claims of a fixed petrol price of ₦600 per litre, labelling the reports as “speculative announcements” without any factual basis.

This was revealed in a statement signed on Tuesday by Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited.

The denial followed recent reports by certain publications suggesting that the refinery was in discussions with oil marketers and that petrol prices could potentially be set at ₦600 per litre.

These reports claimed that the refinery was in talks with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).

Dangote Refinery, however, made it clear that it has not formed any partnership with IPMAN and has not engaged in any discussions regarding the pricing of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with the association.

“Our attention has been drawn to headlines announcing ‘Marketers Project N600/litre for Dangote Petrol’ published in Punch Newspapers on Tuesday, August 13, 2024,” the statement read.

“We would like to clarify that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is not our business partner yet.”

Chiejina emphasised that IPMAN has no mandate or authority to speak on behalf of the Dangote Refinery, whether in favour or with any ulterior motive.

The company also urged the public to disregard such speculative reports, stating that any official announcements would be communicated through the company’s established channels.

“We have our official channels through which we make our views known to our stakeholders,” Chiejina added.
