AAFCA TV Honours 2024: Ayo Edebiri, Nkechi Okoro Carroll Among Honorees

The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) has unveiled the recipients of the 2024 AAFCA TV Honours, recognising distinguished achievements in television and streaming. This annual event celebrates excellence with a particular focus on entertainment representing the Black diaspora.

The prestigious best documentary award was claimed by “Black Twitter: A People’s History.” “Masters of the Air” secured the best ensemble award. Ayo Edebiri, star of “The Bear,” won the best TV acting (female) category, and Wendell Pierce of “Elsbeth” received the best TV acting (male) award.

In addition to the competitive categories, special achievement awards were also announced. Glynn Turman received the Legacy Award, Michelle Buteau was honoured with the Trailblazing Award, Nkechi Okoro Carroll earned the Salute to Excellence Award, Starz’s “Power Universe” was presented with the Impact Award, and the streaming service TUBI received the Ally Award.

Since its inception in 2019, the AAFCA TV Honors has recognised outstanding achievements in television and streaming, emphasising representation of the Black diaspora. The winners will be celebrated on August 2 at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles.

Best TV Drama: The Chi

Best Writing: The Bear

Breakout Star: Josiah Cross (Masters of the Air)
