An Atlas Air Boeing 747-8 cargo plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Miami International Airport (MIA) Thursday night, January 18, shortly after taking off from the same airport.

The cargo plane had been destined for Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in Puerto Rico but was forced to return back to Miami due to a reported engine fire.

No injury was recorded among the five crew members as the plane landed back safely.

A spokesperson for Atlas Air said in a statement that the flight crew “followed all standard procedures and safely returned to MIA.” The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.

A video widely circulated on X social media platform Thursday night showed flames shooting out from the left wing of the plane as it flew over near the airport.
