Bandits have reportedly attacked Ungwan Babangida village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting the village head, Babangida Sojiji, and 14 others during a midnight raid.

Responding to calls by reporters, Aminu Khalid, the youth leader of nearby Dokan Karji, said the attackers stormed the village armed with sophisticated weapons and opened fire from strategic positions before seizing their victims. Among those kidnapped were three women and nine men, including the community’s leader.

Khalid called on the Federal Government and security forces to step up their efforts to combat banditry, which continues to wreak havoc on rural communities. “The Federal Government and security operatives must intensify efforts to cripple the activities of these criminals who have made life difficult for villagers,” he urged.

Despite the grim situation, Khalid praised local vigilante groups for their proactive stance against criminal activities.

The incident adds to the growing insecurity in the area, occurring just 48 hours after bandits abducted four farmers from Libere community, also in Kauru Local Government Area, on Wednesday.

Yesterday West Africa Weekly reported how a Sokoto-based woman, Hamdiyya Sidi was secretly detained and arraigned for criticising the Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration in Sokoto state over insecurity, but later apologised to for raising such alarm, adding another layer to the insecurity in the northern region of Nigeria.
