Plateau’s Christmas Tragedy: Coordinated Attacks Claim 76 Lives

1.3k

The tragic events unfolded as assailants reportedly claimed the lives of no fewer than seventy-six individuals in coordinated attacks on communities within Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State. The Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Monday Kasa, revealed that the attacks extended into Christmas Eve, casting a sombre shadow over the festive season. As the casualty count rises, security personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters intensify efforts to recover bodies and locate missing persons ambushed during the assaults.

Amidst the mourning, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed condemnation, emphasizing the need for swift action and heightened community vigilance. In a statement, he urged security agencies to promptly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face the full force of the law. The governor’s call for vigilance echoes a plea to communities across the state, emphasizing the importance of reporting any suspicious activities for immediate action.

Regrettably, this bleak turn of events has cast a pall over what should be a season of joy, marking it as a black Christmas for Plateau State. The need for comprehensive measures to prevent a recurrence is evident, demanding collective efforts from both the government and the community. It’s a stark reminder of the urgency to address underlying issues and implement strategies to safeguard the lives and well-being of the people.
