Middle Belt Patriots Cautions Arewa to Desist Women's Targeted Harassment

The Middle Belt Patriots have strongly kicked against the targeted harassment and threats to the lives of Middle Belt women by the Arewa (Northerners) Group. This was made public by the National Publicity Secretary, Patrick Anum, in a press statement titled: “Concerns Arise over Harassment and Targeting of Middle Belt Women by Arewa Trolls.” as released in the early hours of Wednesday, 10th of January, 2024.

This is following the no-longer silent genocide going on in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria, as most Middle Belt women gained vocal authority on speaking against the misrepresentation of facts spewed by members of the Arewa Group.

The Patriots’ group strongly warns against Arewa trolls whose aim is to silence the vocal stance of various women from the region, considering women have gained a vocal authority of amplifying the acts of terror coming meted on communities in Plateau State, which led to Black Christmas.

The group considers such a vocal stance as a constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of expression and association, which allows the documentation of true stories of happenings in the Middle Belt, especially after the threats received and executed on the 24th of December, resulting in the loss of over 200 natives.

However, the Plateau killings by Fulani armed militias in the Middle Belt is a public outcry advocating for an end to the ongoing genocide in the region.

In parts, the statement reads, “We have become aware of a disturbing trend involving the deliberate targeting of women from the Middle Belt, both online and offline, aimed at intimidating them for their vocal stance on the ongoing genocide in the region. We treat these threats with utmost seriousness, particularly in lights of threats received and executed on the 24th of December 2023, from a community in the Bokkos local government area of Plateau State where over 200 natives have so far been gruesomely murdered by marauding terrorists.”

While the group emphasizes its commitment to peace and respect as law-abiding citizens, it also calls on every concerned authorities to identify and apprehend those behind the threats.
