Mali and Algeria Strengthen Ties as New Ambassador Presents Credentials

921

Mali’s newly appointed Ambassador to Algeria, Mohamed Amaga Dolo, officially presented his credentials to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Tuesday, according to MaliMaeci.

This event marks a turning point in bilateral relations after a period of tensions between the two neighbouring countries. Following the formal presentation, Ambassador Dolo engaged in discussions with President Tebboune, during which he conveyed the greetings of Mali’s transitional leader, General Assimi Goïta. The two officials addressed recent diplomatic misunderstandings and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation.

Highlighting the deep historical and geographical ties between Mali and Algeria, both parties expressed a strong determination to work together to overcome regional challenges. Ambassador Dolo reiterated his commitment to fostering friendship and collaboration and sought Algeria’s support in his diplomatic mission.

The ceremony signals a fresh chapter in Mali-Algeria relations, paving the way for enhanced cooperation across multiple sectors, including security, trade, and regional stability.

Recall that Algeria had started the construction of a concrete wall along its border with Mali, specifically in the locality of Tinzawaten, as part of efforts to strengthen border security.

The move comes amid increasing regional tensions and concerns over security threats, including smuggling, illegal migration, and armed groups operating in the area.

According to reports from local sources, including Chodi Ag, a journalist, the Algerian authorities are pushing forward with the construction at an accelerated pace, aiming for a swift completion.
