The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has issued a warning cautioning residents in Lang’ata, Nairobi of three lions roaming in the area. This warning came in a statement on Thursday.
The wildlife service said it received reports on Wednesday evening of three lions allegedly sighted near Langata Women’s Prison in Nairobi.
In response, the KWS Problem Animal Control team swiftly mobilised for a thorough search. However, despite a diligent overnight effort, the officers were unable to locate the lions.
The KWS said it would continue to monitor the situation closely and remain on high alert to ensure the safety of the public.
It, however, urged the residents to stay vigilant and “report any wildlife sightings to the KWS 24-hour hotline number 0800 597 000 or WhatsApp 0726 610509 for immediate intervention.”
This incident echoes a similar event in July 2021 when Ongata Rongai residents encountered a stray lion, prompting a response from KWS and local law enforcement.
