Amid Insecurity and Food Crisis, Kastina Governor Urges Citizens to Defend Themselves
Kastina State Governor, Dikko Radda

Kastina State Governor Dikko Radda has encouraged the residents to take proactive measures to defend themselves against attacks by bandits and stop relying on the government. This is coming amidst the current insecurity and food scarcity in the country.

He made this known in an emergency security meeting held on Friday at the Government House in Kastina, where he spoke before the security chiefs, leaders of paramilitary agencies, prominent traditional rulers from Katsina and Daura, and senior government officials. He said that his administration is ready and willing to support communities with logistics for self-defence.

He stated that:

We must review the security situation in the state, take action to find a solution and address these challenges. Apart from insecurity, there are other challenges, like the rising cost of food and hunger amongst the population.

He further expressed that the security of lives and property is not the only challenge faced by the state and other parts of Nigeria; food insecurity is also a challenge.

“We are all aware of the current skyrocketing of the prices of foodstuff, which led to protests in Niger State, Kano and other places. It has not gotten to our state yet, but it is necessary for us to meet and see how we can mitigate the situation before it gets out of hand,” he reiterated.

He also made clear that the government is fully prepared to assist any community that organises itself in its respective areas through training and the provision of logistics.
