JUST IN: Abuja Court Dismisses Charges Against 119 #EndBadGovernance Protesters

#EndBadGovernance:

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed charges against 119 #EndBadGovernance protesters who were arraigned on allegations of treason, incitement to mutiny, and other related offences.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu, presiding over the case, struck out the charges after the counsel representing the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), M.D. Abubakar, applied to discontinue the case. Abubakar informed the court that the AGF’s office had decided to take over the matter and move for its dismissal.

The protesters were initially brought before the court on Friday, November 1, facing serious accusations, including treasonable felony, stemming from their involvement in anti-government demonstrations.

The defendants, divided into two groups during their arraignment, included 76 protesters in the first batch—among whom were 32 minors—and 43 protesters in the second batch.

Recall after widespread criticism and calls from Nigerians for justice, President Bola Tinubu yesterday directed the immediate release of all minors detained in connection with the #EndBadGovernance protests.

Tinubu’s decision follows public backlash over videos of 76 suspects, majorly minors, brought before the Federal High Court in connection with charges stemming from their alleged involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protests.
