GTBank’s transition to the Finacle core banking system has encountered delays, leading to frustration among its customers. The bank initially announced branch closures until 9 a.m. on Monday but later extended this until midday due to issues in the upgrade process.

The delay was confirmed through GTBank’s official social media accounts. The bank is among over 10 Nigerian commercial banks, including Zenith and Sterling, that have recently adopted new banking systems. However, the transition has taken longer than initially anticipated.

In a statement on X, GTBank acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruptions.

“We understand that you rely on our services to carry out important financial transactions, and we apologise for every inconvenience this disruption to our banking services might cause you”, the bank said.

The disruptions have caused significant inconvenience to GTBank’s millions of customers, who took to social media to express their disappointment. Many reported difficulties accessing accounts and processing transactions. Some were locked out of their mobile banking apps and others noticed errors in their account balances. Following the backlash, the bank disabled comments on its X posts, but customers continued to voice their complaints through quoted replies.

GTBank subsequently announced that the transition is complete. However, customers continue to report glitches in the system.
