Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has broken the three weeks’ promises to commence construction of roads in Ifo Local Government Area, including Alagbole, Ayawoele, Ajuwon and Akute roads, as assured to the residents, says AdvoKC Foundation, a youth-led advocacy group.

We [Ogun State Government] had set a firm two-week deadline for the completion of the Denro-Ishasi Road project, and within two weeks, a maximum of three weeks, there will be active construction along the Alagbole-Ayawoele-Ajuwon and Akute roads, says the Governor during a physical visit to the communities on July 8, 2024.

To hold Governor Abiodun accountable, the AdvoKC Foundation wrote to the governor’s office at Oke-Mosan on August 5th, 2024, reminding him of the failed promise to fix the deplorable conditions of Ifo localities.

Governor Abiodun, in response to the AdvoKC awareness campaign on social media using #FixIfoRoads, wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter), stating that the contract for the construction of the Alagbole-Ayawoele-Ajuwon Road has been awarded to an undisclosed contractor.

According to AdvoKC, no signpost indicating any planned construction-related activities was sighted along the Alagbole, Ayawoele, Ajuwon, and Akute roads during its recent follow-up outreach.

According to some residents, they accused the government of paying lip service to their several complaints, as even one resident said he promised to complete [the road] by January 16th last year, says the group.

While residents and commuters in these communities are exposed to increasingly unsafe road conditions, the group has urged the governor to prioritise the welfare of Ogun State people and demonstrate his commitment to good governance by taking immediate steps to ensure that the promised “active construction along Alagbole-Ayawoele-Ajuwon and Akute roads” begins without further delay.
