Ghana and South Korea Move Toward Visa Waiver Deal to Deepen Cooperation

445

The government of Ghana is working toward a visa waiver agreement with South Korea as part of a broader effort to strengthen diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two countries.

President John Dramani Mahama raised the proposal during official discussions with South Korean leaders in Seoul, where both countries reviewed ways to deepen collaboration in trade, technology, agriculture and energy development.

If approved, the agreement would allow holders of diplomatic and official passports from both countries to travel without visas when conducting official government business. Officials say the arrangement would make it easier for diplomats, policymakers and government agencies to coordinate initiatives between Accra and Seoul.

The discussions come as Ghana expands its partnerships in Asia to support industrial growth, food security and technological development. South Korea has become a key partner in areas such as digital innovation, climate technology and agricultural modernization.

Ghanaian tourists say the proposed visa waiver signals Ghana’s intention to strengthen strategic partnerships beyond traditional Western allies while building deeper ties with emerging economic powers in Asia.
