Disco: For the umpteenth time, Nigeria's national grid collapses again

Africa’s most prosperous oil-producing country, Nigeria, has been thrown into yet another darkness as its national grid collapsed overnight, leading to another failure in power generation.

According to a report from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), during the early hours of Monday, April 15, 2024, the sudden and prolonged power outage marked the fifth time the nation’s national grid experienced collapse in repeated sequence.

While the outcome of this power outage remains a nationwide blackout, several electricity distribution companies (DisCos) struggled to cope with the circumstances faced by consumers and stakeholders in the energy sector.

Consumers (Nigerians) have resorted to alternative generators to tackle the darkness, as the grid has yet to fully recover.

Meanwhile, neither TCN nor DisCo has issued an official statement regarding the cause and remedy for the dire power crisis.

As of the time of filing this report, DisCos load profile as of 09:22 am shows Abuja electricity distribution company (Abuja DisCo) has a power load allocation worth 80.00 MW, Benin DisCo 40.00MW, Ibadan DisCo 50.00MW, and Ikeja DisCo 80.00MW while leaving Eko DisCo, Enugu DisCo, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola DisCo to 0.00MW.
