Nigeria’s Enyimba Football Club have been drawn against Egyptian Zamalek and Al Masry in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The draw, which took place on Monday at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo, placed Enyimba in Group D alongside the two Egyptian sides and Mozambique’s Black Bulls.
Enyimba FC is the most successful Nigerian club in CAF competitions, having won back-to-back CAF Champions League and Super Cup titles between 2003 and 2005.
However, their second Super Cup triumph remains the last time a Nigerian club has claimed a CAF trophy.
The Nigerian side struggled to impress in the qualifying rounds, managing two goalless draws against Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante before advancing via penalties.
They now face a big challenge in the group stage, particularly from reigning Egyptian champions Zamalek, who are the current holders of the CAF Confederation Cup, and Al Masry, another seasoned competitor in African football.
Group D’s final team, Black Bulls of Mozambique, will also be competing for a place in the knockout stage. The first group matches will take place on November 28, with Enyimba set for a tough battle to progress.
