As #EndBadGovernance Protests Draw Closer, Oyo Governor To Begin One Month Vacation From Aug. 5

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has written to the state House of Assembly to inform them of his intention to embark on his annual leave from August 5 to September 6, 2024.

The governor’s letter was read on the floor of the parliament by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin during Thursday’s valedictory plenary session.

In his message, Makinde expressed his desire to transfer executive powers to Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, who will serve acting while the governor is away.

The letter stated,

Based on Section 190 sub-section 1, I now transmit that during the period indicated above, Deputy Governor Lawal shall be the acting governor. I shall be back from the vacation on September 7.

The House also swore in Taiwo Muraina-Akinola, formerly the deputy clerk, as the substantive clerk of the House, replacing the retiring Yetunde Awe.

Governor Makinde’s decision to transfer power to his deputy suspiciously coincides with the nationwide protests scheduled to start in August. The planned #EndBadGovernance protests have unsettled the Nigerian presidency and authorities.
