Tinubu, APC Governors Allegedly Divert State Funds for 2027 Campaign as Governance Grinds to a Halt, Sources Claim

A deep crisis is allegedly tearing through the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) of the ruling All Progressives Congress following explosive allegations that governors have been systematically deducting money from monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) shares to fund President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re election campaign. Nigerians have accused the APC of abandoning governance and looting public coffers for political ambition, though all claims remain unverified.

According to unconfirmed reports and anonymous sources cited by The Will Nigeria and Arise TV, APC governors secretly agreed to make monthly deductions from their states’ FAAC allocations and channel the funds into private accounts linked to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum. The money was allegedly held under platforms named Renewed Hope Ambassadors and later Renewed Hope Network, structures designed to campaign for Tinubu’s second term. The total amount alleged to have been raised exceeds 800 billion naira.

Sources claim that trouble began when some governors demanded accountability for how the funds had been spent. Uzodimma reportedly became evasive when asked to provide a breakdown, allegedly claiming the money had already been expended. The response is said to have triggered outrage among forum members, leading to a bitter split that factionalised the governors. Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun allegedly declared Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah as the new chairman of the forum in open rebellion against Uzodimma.

The crisis reportedly escalated to the point that President Tinubu, who was on an official foreign trip to France, Kenya and Rwanda, was forced to intervene personally. According to sources, the president held extensive consultations with the warring factions and brokered a fragile truce. Part of the resolution allegedly required Uzodimma to refund significant portions of the disputed funds and provide a full account of all monies collected. Some sources have indicated that over 800 billion naira is being recovered from the Imo State governor.

The scandal has also allegedly implicated former Minister of Finance Wale Edun, who was removed from office shortly after the controversy surfaced. Sources claim that Edun had authorised the monthly deductions from participating states’ FAAC shares after being convinced by Uzodimma to facilitate the arrangement. Some insiders allege that Edun’s removal was directly linked to this matter, with President Tinubu reportedly believing that the former minister exceeded his authority.

Adding to the gravity of the allegations, fresh claims have emerged linking Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas funds to the growing financial dispute. Unnamed sources have alleged that NLNG related funds were released to Uzodimma before being moved into the financial structure of the Progressive Governors Forum.

The public reaction, based on social media posts, has been one of fury. Commentator Shehu Gazali Sadiq allegedly demanded that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission investigate the matter, asking whether the anti graft agency is aware of the deductions. Many Nigerians have echoed calls for an investigation, expressing outrage over the alleged diversion of funds meant for essential services.

Despite mounting allegations, the Progressive Governors Forum has officially denied any division or misappropriation. In a statement signed by Director General Folorunsho Aluko, the forum described the reports as false and fabricated, insisting that Governor Uzodimma still enjoys the confidence and backing of APC governors nationwide. No official confirmation or independent verification of the allegations has been provided.
