Burkina Faso’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Rimtalba Emmanuel Ouédraogo, revealed a 24-member cabinet on Sunday. The announcement followed Ouédraogo’s Saturday appointment via Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s decree, which was broadcast on state television.

The cabinet includes key figures such as Brigadier General Célestin Simporé as Minister of Defense, Aboubakar Nacanabo as Minister of Economy and Finance, and Pingwendé Gilbert Ouédraogo as Minister of Communication and government spokesperson.

Notably, women were also appointed to prominent positions, such as Aminata Zerbo/Sabane heading the Ministry of Digital Transition and Fatoumata Bako/Traoré overseeing the budget.

Ouédraogo, a journalist by profession had previously served as communications minister and was a prominent figure in Burkina Faso’s state media.

While the dismissal of former Prime Minister Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambela, who had served shortly after Traoré’s September 2022 coup, was not explained, this leadership reshuffle comes as part of broader efforts by the junta to address public discontent over governance and security issues.
