Sacked CBN Officials Take Legal Action, Demand Reinstatement Following Unlawful Dismissal

1.1k

Former officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), whose appointments were terminated in March, have taken legal action against the bank. The ex-employees, through their lawyers, Isa Mohammed and Associates, filed a case in the National Industrial Court on Monday, August 21, 2024.

The sacked staff, including directors, deputy directors, and managers, argue that their termination violated the CBN’s Human Resources Policies. They challenged the legality of their dismissal and sought an injunction to prevent the CBN from filling their positions.

That it is the case of the claimants/applicants that the Unlawful termination of their appointment was not done for the alleged high-sounding phrase on the grounds of reorganisation and human capital restructuring, partly reads the court document, which was obtained by The Whistler.

That the claimants’/Applicants state that the letters issued to them on the 15th of March, 2024 by which the defendant/Respondent determined/terminated their employment was done contrary to the conditions of service, it added.

The sacked staff stated they were not given due process or a fair hearing before being dismissed. The ex-officials also allege the bank is acting in bad faith by advertising their former positions while the case remains in court. They are asking the court to reinstate them and stop the bank from recruiting new directors until the case is resolved. The court has yet to make a ruling on the matter.
