The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Kano State Government, warning that its members will embark on strike if their demands remain unmet by October 16, 2024.

The notice, issued October 2, 2024, was triggered by the government’s continued inaction on longstanding issues affecting nurses and midwives.

Ahmad Sharada, the association’s acting State Secretary and Public Relations Officer, announced this in a statement to the Kano State Head of Civil Service.

According to the statement, the key issues to be addressed include payment of a revised hazard allowance, harmonising the Scheme of Service for nurses, and implementing a 259 per cent salary increase under the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

It will be recalled that the Kano State Medical Dental Practitioners embarked on an indefinite strike on Tuesday, October 1 over unmet demands, including the government’s failure to address the issue of post-COVID-19 hazard allowance.
