PCN Shuts Down 581 Pharmacies, Medicine Shops in Adamawa for Violating Operational Laws

The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 581 pharmacies and patent medicine shops across Adamawa State for violating operational laws. This was disclosed by Stephen Esumobi, the council’s director of enforcement, during a news conference in Yola on Friday.

The PCN enforcement team inspected 816 facilities in local government areas including Yola North, Yola South, Mubi North, Mubi South, Girei, Numan, Michika, and Demsa. Among those shut down were 35 pharmacies, 325 patent medicine shops, and 221 illegal medicine outlets.

Esumobi noted that many of the facilities lacked proper storage conditions which exposes medicines to unsuitable temperatures, which could degrade their quality. He also pointed out that some pharmacies were operating without qualified pharmacists to supervise the dispensing of critical medications.

He expressed concern that many offenders had previously been sanctioned during a similar exercise in 2022 but failed to comply with regulations. The PCN has directed its Adamawa office to ensure the affected businesses fully complies with the law.
