Yahaya Bello Honours EFCC Invitation After Evading Arrest Attempts

75

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has honoured the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following allegations of fraud and corrupt enrichment during his time in office.

Bello declared wanted by the anti-graft agency, said he decided to appear at the EFCC headquarters after consulting with his family, legal team, and political allies.

In a statement released by Bello’s media team, it was emphasised that the former governor holds great respect for the rule of law and is committed to due process.

The former Governor, who has great respect for the rule of law and constituted authority, had, all the while, only sought the enforcement of his fundamental rights to ensure due process, the statement read.

While Bello’s legal team has represented him in court hearings related to the case, the former governor has now decided to personally engage with the EFCC to clear his name.

Recall that the American International School of Abuja (ASIA) stepped forward to refund N1.1 billion to the Kogi State treasury during the earlier days of the investigation.

The school’s decision came after confirming that  Bello had paid $845,000 for his children’s tuition fees, a move that has sparked controversy and raised eyebrows regarding the source of the funds.
