Police Raid Abuja Market, Arrest BDC Operators as Naira Declines Against Dollar

472

The Nigerian police raided the Wuse Zone 4 Bureau de Change (BDC) hub in Abuja on Monday, arresting several operators as the naira continued its steep decline against the dollar, trading at N1,600.

The raid occurred around 4 p.m. and involved a police van filled with armed security operatives arriving at the bustling market.

Witnesses reported that numerous BDC operators were detained and held in the van, although the specific reasons for their arrest remained unclear.

The raid comes amid ongoing concerns over the naira’s free fall.

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had conducted similar raids on the Abuja BDC market to stabilise the currency’s value.
