The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced $50,000 in financial support for each club participating in the preliminary rounds of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

This is the first time CAF has offered financial assistance to clubs at this competition stage, as it aims to help clubs cover travel and logistical expenses. Before now, clubs needed to reach the group stages of the competitions to receive financial benefits.

In a statement published on CAF’s website, the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, introduced this initiative as part of his promise to improve African club football.

“The significant step by CAF addresses the long-standing concerns from Clubs on the travelling and logistical costs associated with playing in club continental football,” the statement said.

The first leg of the First Preliminary Round was held from August 16-18, with the return legs scheduled for August 23-25, 2024. The Second Preliminary Round will take place in September, followed by the group stages
