Protester Brutalised By Police In Lagos On Thursday Returns To Protest On Saturday

Damilola Akinola, who two police officers reportedly brutalised on Thursday in Lagos, returned to the streets on Saturday despite sustaining severe injuries from the police brutality days earlier. According to reports, one of the batons used in beating him was broken in the process.

Eyewitnesses posted on X about using excessive force to disperse the protesters. The injuries Akinola sustained were significant, leaving him with visible wounds and in need of immediate medical attention.

However, despite Akinola’s injuries, he returned to the protest ground to join other protesters on Saturday.

The ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest started on August 1, with Nigerians expressing their frustration over hunger, economic hardship, and governance issues. 

Recall the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun had claimed that the Nigeria Police Force is acting civilly during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests. This claim is coming amidst reports of brutality and killings of protesters since the demonstration started nationwide.
