The Ogun State High Court has issued an order limiting the #EndBadGovernance protests to specific locations and times within the state.

The ruling, delivered on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024, mandated that the protests must be confined to four designated areas and can only take place between 8 am and 5 pm from August 1st to August 10th, 2024.

The court’s decision followed an application by the State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN). Justice O. Ogunfowora, who presided over the case, directed that all protests under the #EndBadGovernance, or any related slogans, adhere strictly to the specified locations and time frames.

The designated protest locations are: MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ansar-ud-Deen Comprehensive High School, Ota, Remo Divisional High School, Sagamu, Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode.

The restrictions is said to protect the rights of non-protesting citizens and ensure public order.

Justice Ogunfowora also instructed the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State to enforce the court order, ensuring that the protests occur only at the specified locations and during the stipulated hours.

The order, which will be in effect for seven days, also shortened the response time for protesters to the application to 72 hours.

The case has been adjourned to August 6th, 2024, for further proceedings.

The #EndBadGovernance has been gaining traction nationwide and there have been discussions around concerns by governments and security agencies. However, Monday witnessed another direction to the planned protest as “anti-protest” protests were witnessed in Lagos and Abuja.

Also, there were reports of “thugs” threatening Lagos residents not to partake in the upcoming protests.
