Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the Labour Party (LP), has once again decried the recurring concerns of being marginalised in the Senate Committee on matters regarding her constituency.

Kingibe expressed her ordeal during the plenary session on Tuesday, while the 2024 supplementary budget of N98.5 billion for FCT Constituency was passed into law.

She, however, drew the attention of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to the vital Sections 10 and 11 of the Senate Order, which clearly state that all elected senators have the right to participate in matters arising on the Senate floor.

Having cited the sections, she further expressed that despite being the highest elected representative in FCT, she is still being excluded in discussions and decisions regarding the affairs of FCT.

I am the highest elected person in the FCT, with over four million people. I am not usually carried along in the issues that pertain to the FCT, especially the matters of budget,” she said.

She added that she is unaware of the procedure, nor has she been invited to any meeting where the FCT supplementary budget, passed into law, was discussed.

However, the Senate President asked her to present her motion and explained that Kingibe’s order required her to formally present a motion to the House.

Akpabio added that Kingibe’s complaint would be addressed in a motion the following day.
