Thirty people are feared dead after a series of attacks by armed bandits on several villages in the Dutsinma and Safana Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Katsina State.

These two areas, Dutsinma and Safana, have experienced a rise in bandit activities despite efforts by security agencies and the government to combat insurgency.

Channels Television, on Friday, reported that 13 villages were attacked on the evening of Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

The villages include Dogon Ruwa, Sabon Gari Unguwar Banza, Tashar Kawai Mai Zurfi, Sanawar Kurecen Dutsi, Unguwar Bera, Kurecin Kulawa, Larabar Tashar Mangoro, Sabaru, Ashata, Unguwar Ido, Kanbiri, Kunamawar Mai Awaki, and Kunamawar’ Yargandu.

The attacks have caused widespread fear, forcing many residents to flee to safer areas and communities.

“As I am talking to you now, even yesterday, we learned that the hoodlums carried out another attack on several other vulnerable villages such as Lezumawa, ‘Yar Kuka, Rimi, and Dogon Ruwa villages,” an eyewitness reported.

When contacted, Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, confirmed the incident in Dutsinma LGA but said he would provide details about the Safana LGA attack later.
