Nigerian Flagboy John Eze begins the Longest Hand-flown National Flag Marathon in Lagos

A Nigerian flag boy has begun a quest to take on the next Guinness World Records (GWR) holder for the longest hand-flown National flag marathon.

On Sunday, May 12, 2024, John C. Eze, known on social media as ObiFlagBoy, unveiled his plans for this Monumental event.

The marathon commenced at 11:00 am (WAT) at the Third Mainland Bridge, a significant landmark representing Africa’s third-largest bridge before Cairo, and will continue without a break until he flies the National flag to and fro the finish line.

The Third Mainland Bridge (3MB) connects Lagos Island and mainland Lagos and is 11.8 km (7.3 miles) in total length. But in 32-degree weather and a 5 km/h wind, Flagboy has set to walk 23.6 kilometres of the bridge without a break until the finish line.

Eze explained he is taking the challenge to promote hope, unity and peace in Nigeria.

When contacted by West Africa Weekly, Eze’s manager said, “Nigerians should understand that we are what we have, and only in unity and peace can we make the country better for ourselves and  the sakes of our children and unborn generation.”

Meanwhile, when West Africa Weekly contacted the Guinness World Records for a statement, the response was bulky. Hence, the marathon could not be confirmed.
