US, Côte d’Ivoire signs MoU to counter disinformation and propaganda

The United States of America, USA, and Côte d’Ivoire signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their collaboration on countering Foreign State information manipulation.

On Monday, the US Department of State, in a media note through its Office of the Spokesperson, disclosed the development, stating that the U.S. Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Jessica Davis Ba, and the Ivoirian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Léon Kacou Adom, signed the MoU to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

According to the US Department of State, the MoU focuses on foreign state information manipulation, which includes disinformation and propaganda.

The MoU also highlights the two countries’ shared recognition of the threat all democratic societies face, including a transnational security threat that can create or exploit divisions within and among nations, imperil election integrity, and undermine public trust in government.

Essentially, the MoU outlines the intent of the US and Côte d’Ivoire authorities to collaborate on strategies and use shared information and policies to establish the U.S. Department of State’s Framework to Counter Foreign State Information Manipulation.

The U.S. has since considered such a bilateral cooperation with an African partner country, Côte d’Ivoire.
