Nigerian Lawmakers argues over sitting arrangement after six weeks break
Senate Plenary meeting

An argument ensued in the Senate chamber today over the seating arrangements in the newly renovated chamber. Some “high-ranking” lawmakers were caught in a heated debate over their newly assigned seats.

According to ChannelsTV, the three Senators involved in the argument include Senator Danjuma Goje, a four-time Senator representing Gombe Central, and Sahabi Yau, a Senator representing Zamfara North, who expressed displeasure over the back seats assigned to them and complained to the Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.

The Senator representing Kano South, Kawu Sumaila, called for a “point of order” but was ignored as the argument continued.

Meanwhile, the senators were expected to sit according to ranking, but the new arrangement did not follow the red chamber’s standing rule.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, called on the aggrieved Senators to approach the bench to calm the situation; after that, he read his welcome address.

However, the plenary was dissolved into an executive session after Akpabio’s prolonged verbal intervention with Senator Bamidele, Yau, and Goje.
