Nigerians across different states are lamenting the hike in fuel prices in recent days and the existence of long queues. Days earlier, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) had attributed these long queues to logistical challenges.

In a video online, famous actor Afeez Oyetoro, known for his role as “Saka” in various Nigerian films, took to social media to express his dismay over the soaring fuel prices, highlighting the hardships faced by Nigerians as a litre of fuel reached an exorbitant price of N900 in some areas.

Recall earlier, in response to growing concerns over the availability and escalating fuel prices in Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) issued a statement reassuring citizens that recent fuel shortages were due to logistical challenges, which have since been resolved.

Addressing these concerns, NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye clarified that the recent scarcity was attributed to logistical issues rather than a shortage of fuel reserves.

Soneye reassured the public that the supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) had been restored to normal levels following the resolution of these challenges.

In the official statement released on Thursday evening, NNPC emphasised that there would be no changes in the prices of petroleum products.

It also wishes to reiterate that the prices of petroleum products are not changing, it stated.

The corporation urged Nigerians to refrain from panic buying, emphasising the sufficiency of fuel products within the country.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) wishes to clarify that the tightness in the supply of Premium Motor Spirit currently being experienced in some areas across the country is due to logistics issues and that they have been resolved, the statement read.
