Princess Kate of Wales has announced she is battling cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
This news comes after the princess was hospitalised for almost two weeks following major abdominal surgery in January, which was initially believed to be for a noncancerous condition.
In a video message released Friday, the 42-year-old royal shared that subsequent tests revealed cancer, prompting the start of preventative chemotherapy.
Kate, married to Prince William, who is next in line for the British throne, expressed shock over the diagnosis and emphasised the importance of privacy during her treatment process.
“This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” said Princess Kate. “As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.
“But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be Okay.”
The princess also extended her thoughts to other people affected by cancer, encouraging them not to lose hope.
She said, “At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
Kate’s request for privacy comes amid public speculation and the spread of conspiracy theories during her withdrawal from public appearances. She expressed gratitude for the support received and the comfort of having Prince William by her side.
