Despite Not Leading By Example, Tinubu Charges Civil Servants to Focus on Efficiency

Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday issued a warning, charging Senior civil servants to prioritize and focus on efficiency in their service to nation-building.

This warning precedes his meeting with the civil servants on Thursday, where he expressed that civil service must be retooled with a focus on efficiency.

He further expressed that “Service to Nigeria is extremely important.” In part, the statement released early Friday reads:

Before the next meeting, I want to see progress in the civil service. I have been sending people to check the level of work that gets done, he said.

In a bid to change narratives, he further expressed that “You and I can change the perception about Africa, not just Nigeria. We might not get it 100 percent right, but if we are focused, I think we can totally change and reshape the trajectory of our country in the right direction,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tinubu, having been sworn in as president in a controversial election on March 29th, 2023, has been embattled with challenges of legitimacy and failure to fulfil the provisions required of the presidency, yet charges the civil servants to prioritize efficiency in their service to nation-building despite being embattled with service to the nation.

However, citizens have put to social following his warning, criticizing his administration for failure to curb the crisis stemming from inflation, insecurity, and challenges faced by Nigeria and Nigerians.

“Show workings”, some said, others “Lead by example.”
