Ooni of Ife Calls for Devolution of Power, Expresses Fear for EFCC Chairman
51st Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has called for the devolution of Presidential and State Governors’ power as a means for redesigning the fundamental structure of Nigeria.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, unveiled the anti-graft agency’s plan to embark on a project which tends to save the country from corrupt public institutions, starting with the State House (Aso Rock Villa) and National Assembly.

Meanwhile, Oba Ogunwusi, in response, expressed his plight on poor governance and fear that Olukoyede may lose his job for embarking on such an investigative and probing project.

In part, his statement reads;

Let’s redesign the fundamental structure of this country, devolution of powers. Why should we make the President and the Governors so powerful, he asked.

Furthermore, he raised concerns for the safety of the job and personality of the Economic Financial and Crimes Commission Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, stating that he would be praying for him as he is about to find out what happened to those before him.

However, Oba Ogunwusi opined that the move by Olukoyede is a great step toward making a progressive mark and should not be misconstrued as going against the establishment.
