Former Minister Sadiya Umar-Farouk Appears at EFCC Headquarters Over Alleged Fraud Investigation

Sadiya Umar-Farouk, the erstwhile Minister of Social Development, Disaster Management, and Humanitarian Affairs, answered the call from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during her tenure.

The EFCC had launched an inquiry into the purported laundering of N37,170,855,753.44, supposedly executed through a contractor named James Okwete during Umar-Farouk’s time in office. Amidst rising speculation and public interest, the former minister finally honored the commission’s summons, arriving promptly at the EFCC headquarters at 10 am on Monday, January 8.

She also revealed that at about 10:20 am, on her X page that she was present at the EFCC headquarters.

“I have, at my behest, arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to honour the invitation by the anti-graft agency to offer clarifications in respect of some issues that the commission is investigating,” Umar-Farouq tweeted this morning.

Recall, it was earlier reported that Sadiya Umar Farouq, had earlier issued an apology to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for her failure to appear before the commission to address queries regarding an alleged laundering of N37.1 billion during her tenure.
