‘The Fight To Salvage Nigeria Is Not Seasonal’ — Obidient Movement in Diaspora Calls For Renewed Engagement in Rebuilding Nigeria

The Director of Diaspora Engagement for the Obidient Movement, Bolanle Emiabata-Anibaba, has called on Nigerians in the Diaspora to remain actively involved in the country’s transformation efforts beyond the election cycle.

In a press statement obtained by West Africa Weekly, Emiabata-Anibaba emphasised that the role of the Nigerian Diaspora in shaping the nation’s future cannot be overstated. She noted that during the last election, Nigerians abroad played a pivotal role in supporting the movement, demonstrating their commitment to a better Nigeria.

“However, as we navigate a period outside the official political season, many may wonder what role the Diaspora should play in the ongoing struggle for national transformation.

The answer is clear: The fight to salvage Nigeria is not seasonal, just as corruption, insecurity, and governance failures are not seasonal,” she stated.

She further highlighted the country’s persistent challenges, including corruption, political malfeasance, lack of accountability, and poor leadership, stating that these issues continue to affect millions of Nigerians daily.

Tolerating these dysfunctions is akin to living with a curable disease while refusing treatment,” she said.

The Obidient Movement, a political and social advocacy group that gained momentum during the 2023 general elections, has been vocal about governance reforms and accountability in Nigeria.

Emiabata-Anibaba’s statement calls on Nigerians abroad to remain engaged in national development despite the country being outside an election period.
