Sixteen Soldiers Killed In Delta State Communal Clash

The Defence Headquarters has reported soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion in Bomadi LGA of Delta State, who were on a peacekeeping mission to the Okuoma community, were ambushed and killed by local youths on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Those killed were the commanding officer, two majors, one captain and 12 soldiers.

The spokesperson for the Army, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau made this known on Saturday. He said the incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities both in Delta State.

The troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State While on a peace mission to Okuoma community in Bomadi LGA of Delta State were surrounded by some community youths and killed on Thursday, 14 March 2024. The unfortunate incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities both in Delta State.

The reinforcement team led by the Commanding officer was also attacked, leading to the death of the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 Soldiers.

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has ordered an immediate investigation and the apprehension of those responsible for the atrocious act. The Delta State Government has also been informed of the incident.

Nevertheless, Gusau also said that the military remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining peace and security nationwide, and that while some arrests have been made, efforts are underway to ascertain the motives behind the attack.
