Senegal Moves to Clear Backlog of Over 2,400 Malian Containers at Dakar Port

Senegalese authorities have announced steps to resolve a major logistical bottleneck after more than 2,400 containers belonging to Malian operators became stranded at the Port of Dakar. The blockage has caused significant delays for Mali’s importers and disrupted the flow of essential goods headed for Bamako.

During a meeting in Diamniadio, Senegal’s Minister of Transport, Fatou Diouf, assured Mali’s transport minister that Dakar would provide full support to expedite the release and movement of the cargo. Officials say the measures will focus on accelerating customs procedures, improving coordination between port services and ensuring quicker onward transportation.

The announcement marks a significant breakthrough for Malian businesses, which have been facing mounting storage costs and supply chain disruptions. With both governments now aligned on clearing the backlog, authorities expect a rapid resolution to the congestion that has stalled trade between the two countries.

According to Senegal’s national broadcaster, the commitment aims to strengthen regional cooperation and ensure smoother trade flows along one of West Africa’s most strategic corridors.
