The longstanding feud between P-Square’s Paul Okoye, known as Rudeboy, and his twin brother Peter Okoye, known as Mr P, has escalated once again, with Rudeboy now claiming ownership of Mr P’s newly released single “Winning”. The single, part of a two-track EP released on November 8, 2024, has become a fresh source of tension between the once-celebrated musical duo.
In an Instagram post that has shocked fans, Rudeboy shared a demo version of “Winning,” asserting that he wrote and performed the song, only for it to be re-recorded by Mr. P. The post included a caption in which Rudeboy expressed frustration, accusing the producer of mishandling the song.
“Song title: WINNING
Written and sung by RUDEBOY
Produced by the same producer.
NOW HOW COME? NOW, AM I SUPPOSED TO RELEASE ANOTHER VERSION? Mr Producer, your case na for another day …
Just a simple thing: Bring 6 songs, let me bring 6 songs…. I submitted my 6 songs to the so-called management. Why re-singing my own song word for word 🤷🏾♂️ Song that was sopos to be in my album next year, June,” the caption read.
According to Rudeboy, “Winning” was one of six songs he had submitted for a planned P-Square reunion album that was ultimately scrapped. He used the Instagram post to criticise Mr P’s decision to re-record the track without his permission.
Rudeboy has gone further to post on his Instagram story the titles of other songs he wrote for the reunion album so that there will be no stories regarding other songs.
The feud between the brothers, which dates back nearly a decade, has resurfaced frequently, much to the disappointment of their fanbase. Earlier this year, tensions rose publicly when the brothers, alongside their older sibling and former manager Jude Okoye, exchanged accusations over financial disputes, including a case involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) initiated by Mr P against his brothers, which was later revealed that Jude Okoye and Rudeboy were involved in shady dealings in their company unbeknownst to Mr P.
As of now, Mr. P has yet to respond publicly to Rudeboy’s allegations over “Winning,” leaving fans and stakeholders once again in suspense over whether P-Square will resolve their disputes or if this latest dispute marks a new low in the saga of one of Africa’s most popular musical groups.
